Once a year, Microsoft celebrates the Partners behind the highest-impact work delivered to customers using Microsoft technology through the Partner of the Year Awards (POTYA). This year’s awards introduce new categories, creating more opportunities for Partners who haven’t submitted before to participate, along with important updates worth noting for those submitting again.

 

Between picking the right category, gathering proof points, securing customer approvals, and writing a winning submission, there’s a lot to pull together in a short window. So, it’s important for Partners to start preparing now and be informed of the key changes.

What’s Changed for 2026 Microsoft Partner of the Year Awards?

With Microsoft’s focus on frontier firms, they have introduced two new categories and a new regional tier. Eligibility and submission requirements have also tightened this year, with greater weight placed on transactable offers, advanced specializations, and measurable AI outcomes.

New Partner of the Year 2026 Submission Guidelines

  • Each award requires its own individual nomination. Partners can no longer submit a single write-up across multiple categories.
  • Nomination content has an 8,000-character limit (not including spaces). Any content placed outside the text submission field is considered supplemental.
  • PDF attachments are capped at three pages. Treat the PDF as reinforcement rather than the place where your strongest evidence lives.

New Microsoft Awards for 2026

Frontier Transformation: This award recognizes Partners using Microsoft AI to deliver end-to-end customer transformation, with the scope covering Copilot, Foundry, and agent-based solutions.

 

Commercial Device Channel: For device-focused Partners, this is a category that didn’t exist before. This award recognizes Partners delivering customer impact through Copilot+ PCs, AI-powered devices, Windows 11, Surface, and OEM portfolios.

 

Regional Award Tier: The 2026 regional tier recognizes Partner impact across three broader geographies: Americas, EMEA, and Asia. Country-level awards are still available, so Partners doing well in a single country still have that path. What’s new is a tier for Partners whose work actually spans multiple countries within a region.

When do 2026 Partner of the Year Nominations Open and Close?

The 2026 Partner of the Year nominations are open from June 1, 2026 to July 7, 2026. Winners will be announced at Microsoft Ignite, held November 17–20, 2026.

Week 1: Pick your category and your flagship story.

Building your winning story is half the battle. Before drafting, reflect on what your organization’s biggest impacts are and match those against the available categories.

 

Week 2: Validate your story through stakeholder interviews.

Week 2 is when you collect all the data. Pull together anything that quantifies the impact, like before-and-after metrics, revenue changes, business outcomes, and adoption figures. The more concrete the proof, the stronger your submission. At the same time, get customer approvals started early in the process so they don’t become a roadblock.

 

Week 3: Draft the narrative and scope supporting materials.

Once the pieces are gathered, it’s time to write the submission. The narrative should emphasize your impact and align tightly with the award category’s intent. Be sure to pull in your supplemental resources, like case study links, video assets, and customer quotes to strengthen credibility.

 

Week 4: Strengthen the story with FY26 data and client testimonials.

Strengthen the draft with the most current data available. Pull in updated FY26 metrics, before-and-after comparisons, revenue changes, business outcomes, and adoption figures.

 

Week 5: Refine the narrative and finalize creative assets.

Use this week to sharpen. Revisit the narrative with fresh eyes, tighten the language, and make sure every section is pulling its weight. Finalize the design of supporting assets so the visual package matches the quality of the written submission.

 

Week 6: Final QA and early submission.

Polish the draft and fact-check the numbers before submitting. We highly suggest submitting a few days early in case any technical issues come up.

 

These internal milestones keep the submission moving smoothly through each phase, so Partners aren’t pulling last-minute stats or rewriting drafts the night before the deadline.

What Stayed the Same for 2026 POTYA

The fundamentals of the awards stay the same compared to last year. Microsoft is still rewarding measurable customer outcomes delivered through Microsoft technology and the awards still span solution areas and industries. According to the 2026 Microsoft Partner Global Benchmark & Success Index, only 37% of Partners surveyed report submitting a nomination. Since preparing a submission is no small feat, it’s understandable that many Partners question whether it’s worth the investment. However the results suggest it is. Among Partners who submit, 52% report reaching finalist status in at least one category, and 52% report winning in at least one category.
